Master of Education - MED
This program is aligned with National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) core propositions. In addition, it includes coursework focused on pedagogical content proficiencies related to teaching Reading-Language Arts. This design will allow teachers to receive advanced professional preparation consistent with NBPTS principles and is supportive of achieving NBPTS Certification in Early and Middle Childhood/Literacy: Reading-Language Arts. The course sequence varies depending upon the semester when you enter the program. Students are required to maintain a portfolio throughout the program and must successfully complete an oral comprehensive examination based on their action research project.
This degree program and the courses that comprise it are offered through a cooperative development and delivery model among TBR institutions. The model provides a platform for TBR institutions to share valuable intellectual resources which enrich program offerings.
As an online student, you gain access to highly-qualified faculty from both the campus where you are studying to earn your degree as well as other institutions across the TBR system. You gain exposure to a wide range of opinions, philosophies, perspectives and experiences that you might not otherwise obtain. The students in your classes are also from other institutions across the TBR system which further contributes to a unique online learning experience.
The program is intended for licensed, practicing teachers. Much of the course work will allow students in the program to carry out assignments within their own classrooms. The degree provides advanced practice in the area of reading and language arts for currently practicing teachers.
